Yesterday I ventured out despite the cold and snagged a few trains on the double track segment between Revilo and Phillips. As this was my first time on the Second District, I was surprised to find a lull in traffic. However that quickly ended once a track inspector cleared at State Line. I have a new respect for those who can chase trains on this line, it was a challenge like none other that was not helped by the icy roads. (Please advise of correct ID's as some crews were quiet)

First southbound was 197 rounding the bend at Pine Knot kicking up some snow as it sped past.

The plan was to beat it to Ratliff, but local traffic prevented that, and northbound traffic was approaching. So after that miss and missing the northbounds, I turned around twice and just went through Oneida to get ahead of 117 where I pulled off just in time as it came around the curve from Pemberton.

Next, I went down to wait with 117 at Phillips for a northbound to come through the single track since the dispatcher had already let 197 through. After a few minutes of waiting in the warm car, 38G appeared with 2 BNSF leaders under the searchlights with a time constrained crew on board.

Shortly after 38G was gone, the signal cleared for 117.

Then as the wind and snow start up again in full fury 117 takes the signal onto single track. I then packed up for a few shots of CSX and headed for the warmth of home. More pictures can be found by clicking the picture.

Thanks Chip! Makes it worth having my phone shattered that night on my way home.
