This morning I spotted a minuteman missile transporter behind a Lackawanna heritage engine.  First time seeing either one.

Nice catches! You would think they would put a tarp over that! DE Dan

I was trying to figure out if it was loaded or not.  They used a handle, but I'd think a nuclear payload would get a higher security detail.

Very cool! The cab looks a little dated, I wonder if this thing is in its way to a museum somewhere?

Great question. The cab looks like it's from the 1970s.
Got questions? I can help you with the Erie Lackawanna (including predecessors), Lehigh Valley, Delaware & Hudson and the shortlines of upstate NY.

The missiles were made in the 70s.  The truck is definitely custom.  Look at it's long frame and extra axles.  Not something you just replace.  I don't know what they are doing with this one, but I saw an article last night with an identical setup being loaded to transport a missile somewhere out west.

It is totally possible it is still an active truck. When I was in the Air Force during the mid 90's, I drove this tow truck all over the PSAB, it was built in 1975 if I recall and had a Chrysler 318 with a single barrel carb. That's me during the fall of 1996.
