Thursday, April 18th, I joined up with Butch Adkins, Jim Wrinn and Steve Forrest for a day out on the 2nd District of the CNO&TP.  Earlier in the year, I had spent a day giving Jim a quickie tour of the 2nd District as we made our way to the K&T in Stearns, and then to  Bristol Va for the 630's trip, and even through we didn't have a lot of time, it was enough to make him want to come back for more.. That seems to happen a lot when folks get a taste of our area here in Ky :)

After meeting up in Danville Ky  early that morning, we made our way slowly South, making sure to shoot a lot of the signals, and hitting most of the good spots.  Train traffic was slow in the morning thanks to a rail gang working, but after MofW cleared up in the afternoon, we where treated to more trains than we could keep up with.. Perfect weather, good company and lots of NS action made for a great day..

Here are a few samples from the day..be sure to check out the whole set at the link >>> http://www.pbase.com/kd4jsl/cs2nd13eb

Early in the morning, Northbound 116 passes under the signals at Geneva Ky as the fog lingers on the hillsides

The guys pose for a shot at Parkers Lake. L-R Jim Wrinn, Steve Forrest and Butch Adkins

Southbound 275 comes under the signal bridge at Whitley City Ky with 10,000 feet of racks.

A good looking SD70 powers a Southbound rail train at Revilo KY

Southbound CWR at Revilo. It still amazes me how these rail trains can negotiate tight curves..

Jim and Steve frame up NS 229 at Revilo

NS 229 swings around the tight curves at Revilo.

Sun, Shadow, and EMD.  Northbound 174 comes around the curve between Parkers Lake and Cumberland Falls, running for the law. Just to the left you can find the remains of old tunnel #11, bypassed by the cut during the realignment in the 1950"s
