It was like a light bulb went over my head at Thanksgiving last year- since I was going down to Elmira (NY), why not get into the area early for some quality time with NS? It worked out fine in 2011 and ther weather was good this year, so I did it again.

The day began at the Gang Mills yard, with frost melting on the tank cars near the State Route 417 overpass.

A couple of high nose GP38-2s were sitting neat the engine house.

EMD #3422 was sitting on the fuel/service pad next to the engine house. This SD40-2 has been a regular sight over the past few years. I've seen her work the H12 local to Sayre (PA) and run north on H06 to Geneva (NY).

A pair of locomotives was also moving around the east end of the yard.

Got questions? I can help you with the Erie Lackawanna (including predecessors), Lehigh Valley, Delaware & Hudson and the shortlines of upstate NY.

I also checked out the Baker Street yard on the north side of Corning. A couple of new tracks for a transload operation can be seen in the background.

It was a pleasant day, so I headed over to Philo Road W in the Town of Elmira. Eastbound 38T came though around mid-day.

Dinner was scheduled at 2 PM, so I had plenty of time to chase NS/CP 38T to the Route 17C overpass in Tioga Center and get back to Elmira before my family gathered.
