This past Saturday 01/14/12, Carmon and myself headed out at daylight to meet Brian Pleasant in Danville (KY) to spend the day shooting on the CNO&TP. Brian had not spent a lot of time around Danville, so we planned to work between there and Kings Mountain.

The forecast had called for partly Sunny Skies until mid-day, then it would change to heavy snow by early afternoon. As it worked out, it was "partly sunny"  lasted about an hour, and then just cloudy..the snow would not arrive until almost dark...oh well.  With almost nothing but wide cab GE's and clouds, I didn't shoot much at all, but it was fun to get out anyway for the first time in 2012.

The hour or so of sun we did have netted some of my favorite shots of the day at North Wye (SJ Tower), which is where the Louisville district joins the CNO&TP. When we arrived, there was a 289 tied down on #2 track, a 76J coal train ready to come off the Louisville side to go North on the CNO&TP to the E.W. Brown power plant at Burgin (this is a new train for us), plus a pair of Southbounds that needed to run. We spent an hour or so there in the 15 degree temps to watch all this transpire before moving on South. With the cold temps, low sun and shadows, it created some very moody images with lost of contrast.

Later in the day, as we headed home, the coal train had finished working at the power plant, and we stopped long enough to get a shot of the crew as they turned the lead engine on the wye, before taking the empties back West to Louisville as the snow began to fall. . I will post some stuff from South of Danville, and also from the Louisville district (and snow) later on.
