After spending the first couple of weeks of the new year fighting a nasty cold and not feeling like getting out, I joined EB and Brian Pleasant this past weekend to get out shoot for the first time in 2012. Saturday, we met Brian in Danville early, and spent the day working between North Wye and Kings Mountain. The weather went from 15 degree's and sunny in the morning, to heavy snow in the evening. NS stayed busy most of the day, and we where even treated to the new 77J/76J coal train off the Louisville District.

Sunday, we headed out mid-morning to get a few trains on the Louisville district in the snow. Caleb joined us later in the afternoon as we shot 285 and 23G before lucking into yet another coal train (793 empties) with a new SD70Ace leading. We followed the 793 West almost to Louisville before calling it a day.

My first 17 shots of the new year are up on Pbase, accessible by this link.

NS 76J swings off the Louisville District and onto the CNO&TP at North wye.

Late on Saturday, the snow began to fall as the crew of 77J (the empties from Brown plant) turned the lead engine at North Wye before heading back to Louisville.

Sunday Morning 01/15/12, NS 285 starts down through the big dip at Convoy Ky, on the Louisville District.

That 285 is usually a safe bet for neat power, nice stuff Mrs Bell!
"The engineer in the old high cab his gold watch in his hand, looking at the waterglass and letting down the sand, rolling out on the old main line taking up the slack, gone today so they say but tomorrow he'll be back...."

I like that vertical Convoy one with the heat distortion and the high sun.

I generally don't like winter much... but I love that shot of 77J's power in the falling snow.
Got questions? I can help you with the Erie Lackawanna (including predecessors), Lehigh Valley, Delaware & Hudson and the shortlines of upstate NY.
