A couple of Sundays ago, we headed out early to beat the heat and check out the area where train 215 derailed, at Geneva Ky on the 2nd district of the CNO&TP. This was the first derailment I had ever seen in person, and the destruction was impressive. Its hard to imagine how quickly something like this can happen, and makes you think twice about just how close you get when out shooting.

NS and contractors had already cleared the scene and had trains running several days before we made it down there, but the mess still remained. They had simply dragged all the damaged cars across the creek and over by the road to be scrapped. Its a miricale that no one was injured when this happend, given the speed of the trains and the proximity of the houses to the mainline.

You know kelly and I got behind four consecutive tractor trailers loaded with railcar axles, all four loads were muddy filthy axles I told her then they had to come from a derailment. This was about a week ago or less. I wondered then if it could be from this one but I wasn't sure how many cars were involved. Nice pics!
