To E.M. Bell, or others with photographs of Kings Mountain:

I've been revising my CNO&TP layout for the past year, and will post tons of pics fairly soon.

But I'm looking for a photograph like the 2002 pic at the bottom of this Reply #28 thread:

http://www.jreb.org/ns/index.php?topic=91.msg450#msg450

The attached photograph shows why . . . . I'm trying to get my "by-passed" tunnel entrance to look somewhat realistic (prior to finishing off the trees, shrubs, etc. on the front face of the old tunnel entrance and on the top-side of my Kings Mountain vista).  Plus, in this view, you can see that I haven't even started the entire east (right) side.

Does anyone have a "good" close-up of the south tunnel portal, to post here or e-mail me at:

Something like this would work: http://www.pbase.com/kd4jsl/image/93512403

Thanks in advance,  RDS

Well, you posted the link to the pic I was going to send you! Thats the best detail shot I have of the South End of #2. It pretty much looks the same today, maybe grown up a tad more.

Call on our tunnel man, Butch Adkins. If Anyone here has the pics you want, it will probably be him!

Here are a few angles I have.  And I threw in a pic from the August 63 Ties Magazine that detailed the religinments that reduced the Rathole to just four tunnels.  I hope they help.

Great, many thanks for the images!

I might even include a small pool of water at the entrance, as that looks like a low spot where run-off might collect.

Appreciate it.

P.S. - If anyone else has some recent pics, post away . . . . they'll be helpful as well.

Well, if you want water, you should consider the north portal.  The last couple hundred feet is always a pool of water-or ice.   And don't forget the ventilation shaft in the middle.

I wonder if they make rattlesnakes in HO scale?

There have to be a few of them in the area!  :)

( You know, to be totally realistic )

Actually, I don't know if there're many around central KY anymore, copperheads maybe.  Now if you get down into TN, then...

Many thanks for the pics.

It sure is easy to see how a term like "rathole" was applied to the line (even decades ago, with the tunnels in much better shape).

Appreciate it!

I will say that it has been "fun" re-creating the long walls of the deep cut in plaster.  The attached pic shows the process, obviously at a condensed perspective.
