Yesterday I decided to go to a location that I'd only been to once before, mp 183.  Wasn't sure what the location would bring, but the sun was out and thanks to the EMB-EWS, I knew a few sporadic SBs were running.  As I was passing Grove, I noticed 197 stopped at the signal.  Then I picked up from the scanner that they were picking up the engine from the work train on the Cooper siding.  That gave me a chance to hit the bridge and catch it coming across the lake.  Then I ran ahead and caught it again at Cumberland Falls.

Oh yeah, still trying to learn the new camera and have found something that annoys me.  Turning it off/on, if I'm not careful I end up changing modes with has screwed up several shots so far.  Anyway, back to MP 183-184.  The get there, go to the jeep trail that goes over the abandoned Tunnel 12.  A 10 minute hike will put you track side at the intermediate signal just above MP 184.  I had a couple of NBs come through, but if you know the area, you know those are just opportunities to wave to the crews.  I did get three more southbounds before it was time to head to the barn.  First up was 123 just south of MP 183.  Then back at MP 184, I ended up waiting through an hour long green signal before 117 finally showed up.  Some where along the way a bluebird stopped to rest on the MP.  Finally, I caught 175 just above the cut.  I worked my way up the side of the hill to try to get a different angle-ended up with a lot of shadows-probably hurts the shot, but I tried it anyway.

Nice catch on the leased GMTX unit in your first photo. One of my fellow railfans spotted a similar GMTX engine on the Corning Secondary (in upstate NY) last week: http://www.railroad.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=128&t=75134&start=120

The leased units are a nice splash of color, especially with the former CR locomotives getting repainted.
Got questions? I can help you with the Erie Lackawanna (including predecessors), Lehigh Valley, Delaware & Hudson and the shortlines of upstate NY.

Butch, the shot of the bird, MP, and signals in the background is outstanding...RR shots dont always have to have a train in them, and that one is sure enough proof...well done!

Thanks Emmett, you know I like stuff that's off the beaten path so to speak.

Matt, below is another pic of GMTX 9040 crossing the lake and a close-up from that view.

NS O Scaler, the road has been graded since the last time I was there, but still too muddy without 4wd.  Not a place I'd go regularly, but it does have a couple of interesting angles.

Does 123 have a UP or is it one of those leased units with the red line through the UP?

Thanx! Standard cab and a little bit color just made my day! I hope I can catch one of them on my next NS chase.

Ed, here is the same pic cropped just for UP 9158, sorry I didn't get a better shot.  It's hard to see, but I didn't notice any unusal markings.

Looks like an older UP still owned by UP to me. Kind of rare around here. I'll take it. Always a fan of a yellow engine mixed in with the black and white.

UP 9158 is a Dash 8-40C, one of 34 currently on lease to NS.  The white rectangle below the cab on the side is a magnetic sign indicating it is leased to NS.
