i am do a custom sw1500.  putting the zebra stripe on do i sand it all flat first?

does any one put decals on?

I have painted several of my NS engines with just a flat black out of a spray can. I have been lucky they have turned out looking like a pro painted them. I have always just applied my decals without sanding and then two good coats of microscale. After applying that it makes the decals fit snug in any groove and the end result looks like the decal was painted on. Anyway thats my method until I get a airbrush and it has worked for me.

on the pilots it has the the cutbar bolt thinges, and air hose fitting.  will decals go over all the bumps?   it an old athern shell.

The ones I have decaled after applying Microscale I usrally take a needle nole bit and poke through the decals into the holes. I have even decaled alot of hoppers and after applying the microscale and it dries it looks like the decal has been painted on.
