This coming Saturday (May 10) is National Train Day. It is a day of events all over the country. There are some big events in places like Washington, Philladelphia, and a couple other large cities. Lots of smaller towns are having special events as well. There is a listing here http://www.nationaltrainday.com/2009/events/additional-events

I got an email about it at work today, and from what I have learned it is a celebration of the golden spike ceremony. It appears to be an Amtrak sponsored event, and they even put a green spin on it for reducing your carbon footprint. Most places are at least doing giveaways and offering a free poster ect. It may be worth stopping by and checking out if you are out and about near your local Amtrak station this Saturday.
