My friends use the term "pre-game" to describe a celebration that starts early. In my case, my birthday was last week... and I went down the weekend beforehand to visit my family. Of course, what's a trip to NY's Southern Tier region without some quality time trackside?

Day #1 was quiet. The only train I saw was NS 13T heading eastbound at CP Cass.

Got questions? I can help you with the Erie Lackawanna (including predecessors), Lehigh Valley, Delaware & Hudson and the shortlines of upstate NY.

The next day was better. Among other things, I caught NS 310 heading eastbound at CP HO.

I also caught NS 12T (with a BNSF unit sandwiched in the middle of the power) working at Gang Mills:

The Bath & Hammondsport RR had dropped off some NJT transit cars (seen in the middle). They would depart Gang Mills pn the same afternoon this photo was taken:

The pending D&H acquisition may end the joint NS?CP mixed trains on the Southern Tier mainline, so I was happy to catch 38T at Rathbone:

Finally, I chased NS 13T through the Canisteo River valley, including the Town of Addison:
