Today’s Morning Action NS Austell Georgia 8/24/14 With A War Bonnet

NS 207 (SAVANNAH, GA - AUSTELL, GA  / ROSSVILLE, TN ) with BNSF669 War Bonnet still in fairly good paint heads north through Austell on the run around track and heads into Whitaker Yard. Very difficult to photo north bound trains at this location this early in the am.


Was hoping I could catch this train heading north but the NS 207 is tied down on the run around track at the north end of Whitaker Yard. Photo taken at Oglesby Road crossing at CP Cowart looking south the track to the right is the NS main line. Later Sunday afternoon (4pm) this train was heard leaving Whitaker Yard to Memphis via Chattanooga TN.


NS 732  BNSF 8962 & 8906 lead a loaded Scherer coal drag south on the run around track through Austell


NS 732 had two BNSF Executive Paint Scheme units BNSF 9568 & 9764 providing DPU power for this train as both were on line and operating big time.


NS 22N (MEMPHIS, TN - ATLANTA, GA) with NS 8824 & 2714 heads south on the #2 main at MP135 Austell Georgia


NS 285 (KANSAS CITY MO / ATLANTA, GA - JAX, FL (FEC)) with NS 9931, 6694 & 8780 heads south on the #2 main at MP135 Austell Georgia


Inman to Whitaker transfer's lead power is NS 3515 SD40-2 (Former HLCX 7027 / BNSF 7027 / BN 7027) holds the #1 main at MP 135 Austell Georgia as NS 285 rolls by.


Paired up with the NS 3515 is NS 6342   SD40E (Re-built Former SD50 NS5430 /CR6753)

NS 22G (LONG BEACH, CA (UP KLBNS) - ATL, GA) with UP 5309 & UP 3844 providing the lead power rolls past MP 135 Austell signals as NS 3515 will cross over to the run around track when 22G clears the interlocking.


Today's 22G was a long one. Estimated at least to be 9,000ft give or take and included a brand spanking new C45AH DPU unit UP 8191. Part of this train will pull north into Whitaker Yard as a yard crew was seen boarding the DPU unit.


The NS 3515 gets a flashing amber light and proceeds north toward Whitaker Yard. Note this unit's head light is mounted in the low short hood


NS 26A (VANCE ALA - BRUNSWICK GA) auto rack off the Alabama East End into Austell Jct. with NS 2733 & 8442


Later in the day I hooked up with a good friend who did the "ALS Ice Bucket Challenge" with the NS 6081 (A25 Douglasville local) in the back ground and challenged a few local NS folks!  For a great cause!!!
