Waiting for the Wabash that never showed.

Word was the Wabash was headed back to Louisville from Princeton Indiana. A few railfans gathered in Jtown today to wait and see if it was going to come through. A Q4J was mistaken as a 74J causing even more confusion. While the Wabash didn't show every one was happy to catch a rare sighting of a Citirail unit.

First up was a Q4J running 3x3 which sounds like 74J on a staticy scanner speaker.

After Q4J went East 239 which had been waiting at Tucker came through with a CSX leader. What was once a rare sight, CSX engines on the Louisville District, now has become a daily occurrence. Trains 60/61R are CSX run through power to AK Steel in Rockport Indiana.

It was about this time we heard dispatch call a 74J on the radio and mention something about 20 or 30 more minutes. We all figured after 239 cleared the signal at Dumesnil that a 74J would be waiting in the siding there to come East. The signal never showed an East bound but went Green facing West meaning another Westbound was coming from Tucker. We then heard 375 on the scanner headed our way.

With a Citirail leading everyone was more then happy to see that go by then a repeat of a heritage unit.

Everyone packed up and left but me. I stayed around for a bit more before giving up and I missed 223 come through with a UP, UP, CP combo by about two minutes.

Getting a heads up that a 98Z was at Tucker heading West I just got back in the car and headed back to the tracks in time to catch some Long Hood Forward action.

I called it a day after that. I didn't hear anything else on the scanner for a few hours.
