future 9162

Got this ol gal on ebay for $56 !! Its also my first Kato model .  I plan on decking it out as 9162 all because it has a Black PTC platform not gray lol
I will most likely start this after my slug is done !!! So it may be a double dip situation

Yes it is a great deal ,  with 13 minutes to go it was @ 45 I put 60 and I for sure thought I'd get out bid !!! Not the case lol ! But it needs a lot of work to make it a true D9-40CW !!! Im gonna try (try) to make it as close as possible ?

Looks to be an interesting project as the prototype has gone through several detail changes during its lifecycle. Plow is off of an ex-CR (Atlas) D8-40CW for starters. Not sure I have seen the correct number board font from anyone at this point.

Do you have a top 3/4 image you can post or a link of same image location? I am curious to see if the painted the whole PTC platform or just the faces that can be seen from the ground. The reason I ask is that the platforms have anti-skid locations painted into the surface from the factory.

I wouldn't go by that image as 8156 was painted by GE and the 9162 was repainted by NS. The PTC unit was grey when it was installed. I can see the paint shops masking the top surface and painting the side faces black. They do some goofy things in Altoona....

I found these two pics. 1st one shows an all grey PTC. It is old paint job. Also had black numberboards with white numbers. The 2nd pic is of 9162 in HH paint. If you look closely... the sinclair ant are black... so, I would place a bet that the whole thing is black now. DE Dan
