Out with the old... and in with the new

I have been shooting trains with a SONY W370 camera since early 2011. It had served me well until the USB port shorted out recently. The following shots were taken on my final trip with the old camera.

The first train I saw was westbound NS 23K near MP 387 on the Southern Tier Mainline. The sun was peaking through the clouds on a warm fall morning.

The clouds rolled in by the time eastbound NS/CP 38T arrived, but the big "red barns" pulling the train fit well with the fall colors.

All photos in this post were taken by me Sunday 10/13/2013 in Middlebury, NY.

I discovered the problem with the USB port on my old W370 after coming home to process my photos on the 13th. It could still take photos, but there was no way to download the shots. I purchased a refurbished Sony W370 camera, because I am familiar how it works. The "new" W370 entered service the following weekend, and captured westbound NS 12T late in the afternoon.

Both photos in this post were taken by me Saturday 10/19/2013 in Middlebury, NY. The crossing is Silver Road, a few miles west (compass north) of the previous set of shots. The new Sony W370 canera has been working well for me, and I have more more outings to share in the coming weeks.

Nice shots Matt. Glad you got a replacement... as I always like the pics you post.  DE Dan

Thanks, Dan. BTW, getting a refurbished W370 was cheaper than having the original fixed!

Great photos! Stinks that your old camera puked, but it looks like the 'new' one does just fine!

Thanks, Dan. Familiarity was a big factor in getting another Sony W370. I had a couple of outings this past weekend, so it was important to have a camera that was ready to go.
