If yall have not figured it out by now, I LOVE bad weather.  I always enjoy getting out in the stuff that would make most folks stay at home, and snow is at the top of the list..

Living in Central KY, we don't seem to get a lot of snow anymore. 2 or 3 decent storms a year is about all we have had in the past few years, and I tend to get excited when it does (And I think that is rubbing off on my wife as well). On Saturday December 29th, our area saw the fist snow of the winter, and we headed out on the NS Louisville district to shoot a few. While our area only had 3 or 4 inches that day, Indiana got dumped on, with some areas getting over a foot. That seemed to have hampered operations on the NS to some degree as the Louisville District was not nearly as busy as usual, and most everything was running a lot later than normal.

While we only shot 3 trains, I was happy with the results. I am also throwing in a couple of (no snow) shots I lucked into while shooting a friends rather large Christmas light display here in Salvisa just before the holidays.

The entire set can be found at this link.  http://www.pbase.com/kd4jsl/louisvilledistrict2012_eb

NS 23G rolls by the gate to the James farm in Salvisa KY on 12/22/12. My buddies Robert James and Gordon Brandenburg always put on a good show for the holidays, with the field next to the tracks (plus a few barns and fences) covered with several thousand lights.

23G the same evening, in a artsy sort of shot..

A look at a SMALL portion of their work. We get a lot of traffic on our road during the holidays as folks come from all over to take in the sight.

The morning of 12/29/12 finds NS 285 in the snow at West Talmage KY.

Eastbound NS T79, the "Mixing Center turn" with a pair of D9's running Southern style through the snow at Conners Station KY

later in the day, NS 375 rolls through a sleet / ice storm at Avenstoke KY. The sleeted started after we had driven back into this location, and getting out of the valley on a hilly 1 lane road was "interesting" to say the least.

Love, love, love the last one. Do y'all ever submit anything to the magazines? What I see here is typically miles beyond most of what I've seen in print. And, granted, I follow trains for my kids - hound dogs are my realm of knowledge :) - but from a pure appreciation of photography standpoint, you're doing really, really well.

You have to admit the snow makes those black engines just stick out like a light in a dark room.Love the snow shots.

Thanks for the comments! I just started to submit to the dead tree media again, after several years of not doing so. You should see some of my stuff in TRAINS later this year to accompany an article written by Mr. Flanary (Butch should have some in the same issue), and they are also going to be using some of my SR 630 shots in a article that should run in the next issue.

Bears, I think thats why I like snow so much...dont matter what crappy GE is leading, the snow will make it look good!
