2 down, 17 to go.

This past Sunday, April 29th, The newest of the heritage units, NS 8114 wearing the colors of the original Norfolk Southern Railway, made its first in service trip on train 387 from Knoxville to Andover Va. Emmet and I made a last minute decision to join a few other friends in the all day chase across Two states, and we were rewarded with decent weather and lots of great photo locations.

While I have been over on the Appalachia District a couple of times now, the area between Knoxville and Bulls Gap was new territory. A good number of people where out shooting the move, and it was great to meet a few friends that we don't see very often, and meet even more!

After editing my images from the day, I came up with 8 that where the best. You can find them all at my 2012 P-base gallery, just click this link.  http://www.pbase.com/kd4jsl/ns2012carm

Here are a few small samples.

Jefferson City, Tennessee

My favorite of the entire day. NS 387 passing the famous Rock City Barn at Kite, just outside of Bulls Gap, Tn (Be sure to check out the high res version of this one on Pbase!)

After spending over an hour working the small yard at Yuma, the 8114 leads 387 on the final lap to Andover, seen here at Watkins, Virginia

We even found the one and only Ron Flanary, and spent the late afternoon waiting on a hillside near Sunbright Va. It was great to see you again Ron..

A virtual "Who's who" of NS photographers at Kite Tn. Casey up on the roof of his SUV, Evan Loftback at the video camera, Scott Lindsay, Steve Forrest and my hubby trying to hide behind everyone.

Great pictures, Carmon!  I especially like that one crossing the Holston River.  I thought about setting up there for my first shot, but didn't think the light would be that good!  Wish I had now!

That group photo is neat too.  Good gravy I look thin!  I need to put on some weight.  :P  Also I don't know if you guys noticed, but I sure did teach that speed limit sign a lesson!  (Car was unharmed)   ;)

Again, great to see so many familiar faces and meet some new ones.

Beautiful collection of photos Carmon. Really like that curve shot, just gets the whole essence of the unit in it.
Nice to see such a good crowd turned out to see it, I would have went, but the H/U came in too late for me.
