As the result of a last minute decision, I went out to Buffalo for a concert last weekend. I did, however, manage to get an afternoon by the tracks before the show.

The first stop was Bison Yard, where I caught some switching action... including a familiar Geep, #5666.

Bison Yard was not very busy, so I decided to check out Bison Runner... where eastbound coal train #8888 was idling. Local railfans refer to this job as Crazy 8s. The train got under way not long after my arrival.

Got questions? I can help you with the Erie Lackawanna (including predecessors), Lehigh Valley, Delaware & Hudson and the shortlines of upstate NY.

After dinner, I spent the evening at Bayview Road crossing, where NS (ex-NKP) and CSX (ex-NYC) run side by side. Eastbound 22K was my first NS sighting.

This was followed about an hour later by eastbound 14J:

I don't often post pictures of CSX here, but when I do... it's because there was something fun like this meet under the ex-NYC signal bridge just west of Bayview Road.

And to top it all off. there was a great sunset at Lake Erie... which is just a few miles away from the crossing.
