Last weekend, Carmon and myself decided to try our luck again at shooting steam up North. After our mechanical issues attempting to shoot the UP 844 earlier in the month, I really felt the need to get back out and make myself feel better! We didnt come away disappointed this time, with Two very successful days chasing the Nickle Plate 765.

The Fort Wayne Group, in conjunction with the Hoosier Valley RR museum, teamed up to operate the 765 over HVRM's former C&O mainline between North Judson, and La Crosse Indiana several weekends this month, and the beginning of July.  While the first weekend of operation was marred by a well publicized derailment, the other trips seemed to run with no further issues. The guys from Fort Wayne put on their usual professional and well operated trips (along with the Hoosier Valley folks) , with what has to be (in my opinion) one of the best looking and sounding steam locomotives running today.

We had never been "up that way" before, and didnt know what to expect in the terms of scenery and photo locations, but came away with what I thought was some pretty decent material.  While the weather was a bit iffy at times (although the nice rain and storm we had on Sunday was a delight to shoot in), I was happy to come away with a few good shots, no vehicle issues at all, and most importantly we both had a great time. Special thanks to Jreb member John Troxler (JET) for all the help with directions, locations ect!

I finally finished up the processing on my stuff, and this afternoon added 33 new 765 images to my Pbase gallery. Feel free to take a look, they can be found at this link, with much large images than the small ones poster below.

We also managed a few short video clips. While the image quality is not the best from the little video camera we have, the sound is pretty dang good. Check this link for 6 new clips, and crank the volume up!

As a lifelong Erie fan, the sight of a Berkshire makes me smile.  ;D

Nice shots and thank you for sharing.
Got questions? I can help you with the Erie Lackawanna (including predecessors), Lehigh Valley, Delaware & Hudson and the shortlines of upstate NY.

Great photos. I love those distance shots.

I know they have to sell seats to run these but it would be awesome to see steam pulling freight as in some old restored box cars and a gondola or two with a caboose on the rear.
