Saturday Morning 10/05/13 Emmett and myself had planned on getting out and enjoying the cooler weather and finding a few trains to waste some pixels on, with no real plan. About the time we walked out the door he got a message about train 376 with the Veterans unit leading and suddenly the plan we (didn't) have changed.

We got on the move and I strapped myself in tight (I swear when that boy is on a mission, I need one of those 3 point racing harnesses instead of a seat belt) with hopes we could get to Waddy before 376 did. The radio had been dead, and we really had no idea how far they had gotten. When we got on Interstate 64 EB muttered something about hoping the train didnt get by us, and about 30 seconds later we heard the Avenstoke detector go off (meaning the train had gotten by us). I tightened up the seat belt some more, said a little prayer and we made a U turn and headed back towards Lawrenceburg in hot pursuit. Luck was with us and 376 had to meet a Westbound at the Coalchute siding, meaning we had plenty of time to slow down and still get them.

The rest of the day was spent following them towards Danville, then North of the 1st district towards Cincinnati. The weather turned rather sour as we got up North, but we still came away with some decent images, and caught a few more trains in the process.

Saturday the 12th, we headed back out to meet TJ and go South on the 2nd district. I didn't get to take many shots that day as I stayed in the explorer to babysit the kitten we rescued near Garlands Bend (that is a story in itself). Below are a few of the better ones from those Two days. You can see them in original size at this link if you want to take a peek.   http://www.pbase.com/kd4jsl/ns13clb

NS 6920 at Lawrenceburg KY, framed by a tree with just a hint of fall color.

376 at Convoy, Ky on the Louisville District.

The clouds had started to thicken up, filtering the light as the 6920 brought 376 back up to track speed after passing through Harrodsburg.

While waiting on 376 to do some switching at the Toyota yard North of Georgetown, we went to check out the new control point at Georgetown KY. Here is train 215 rolling around the curve where the old signals has stood until about a month ago.

I am not sure about that look on my husbands face. He seemed to missing the old signals after getting a shot of 215, but then again somewhat happy at the EMD leader.

Southbound 295 was running right behind 215, seen here also at Georgetown with a toasted GE on the point.

While I did not bother to get out in the rain at Blanchet to shoot the NS Vets unit under the searchlight signals, I DID get a signal shot that no one else did that day. While my husband was fluttering around muttering about the sun being wrong, power lines and missing the shot trying to find the perfect angle, I carefully chose the best angle I could and got the 6920 under the rarely photographed signal bridge at Deliplane KY, right next to the Toyota plant. Its not perfect, but I like it. The fact I got the shot and he didn't makes it that much better

Saturday 10/12/13, a Southbound grain train passes the new signal at the Green River holdout near Southfork, KY

Children of the Corn?? TJ & EB hike back up the road after shooting a 54X at the Green River dip.

Nice work Carmon! That guy with the Nickel Plate hat looks kinda suspicious though. Probably should have called him in to local law enforcement  ;)
