I spent a day in my old stomping grounds at the end of last week. I began the day in the southwestern corner of the Finger Lakes region and worked eastward.

The morning action was the Bath & Hammondsport RR yard in Cohocton. The C424ms were idling next to the engine house.

I found the hillside above the yard was a good vantage point to catch the Alcos as they switched a customer. This shot was taken from the shoulder of County Route 121 in Cohocton:

In the middle of the day, I caught NS local H12 getting ready to depart the former Erie/EL yard in Gang Mills.

Late in the day, I caught NS local H06 on part of its trek from Gang Mills to Geneva. The crew report time had been moved from 3 PM to 5 PM, so the train didn't enter the Corning Secondary (shown below, on the north side of Corning) until 6:45 PM EDT.

H06 passes thru Baker Street yard in Corning, heading northbound.

H06 (shown at Baker Street yard in Corning) had a rather short consist. It normally has 40-50 cars.

Norfolk Southern H06 passes through Hornby.

By the time the train got to the Camp Ground Road crossing Chambers, it was getting dark and a storm was approaching. I ended the chase here.

All photos in this post were taken by me Friday 5/10/2013 in central New York. Although the action was a little light (due in part to losing track of the B&H train), it was still a fun day. A special thanks goes out to the employees of the B&H for their professionalism and courtesy.

Nice pics. That Birkett Mills shot is a perfect scene for a model railroad. Dan

Thanks! Going to Cohocton feels like I'm stepping back in time- Alcos, flagged crossings and Birkett Mills are fun throwbacks to an older era.
