It seems like the past couple of months, I have somehow manged to go North of Danville KY, up on the 1st District, every time I have been out shooting. While there are just as many trains up that way, the scenery is just not all that great except in a few places, but between Heritage units and shooting signals, I have ignored my beloved 2nd district except for a couple of days. With some pretty weather coming up, and a whole week of vacation to burn, I will have to atone for this sin and make up for lost time :)

Below you will find a few samples of those days (March 8th and 30th) including signals, EMD's, a little foreign power and other assorted goodies. As always, the entire set can be found at this link if you care to take a gander.  28 new Images in all >>>>> http://www.pbase.com/kd4jsl/cs2nd13eb

A single SD70M leads a shorter than normal version of the weekly 055 High / Wide train at Kings Mountain, KY

The same 055 a little further South, crossing the Cumberland River at Burnside, KY

A 10,000 foot long 275 eases across the bridge at Burnside KY, slowing for a stop to change crews.

NS 055 again, seen at "Cumberland Chair" on the North side of Somerset, KY. The old signals here where still in use at this time, but the new one's where ready to go when the time comes.

March 3t0th, 2013

A brand new BNSF motor leads unit ethanol train 68K through the interlocker at South Danville, KY

"Cylindrical Uniformity". A Southbound unit train of exploding corn squeezins tops over Moreland Hill, headed for the gas tanks of the Atlanta area.

NS 224 gets back on the move at Palm KY, with a 10 year old GE smoking more than a 50 year old Alco..but then again, 10 years IS old for a GE :)

A CN Trio bring NS 52D around the sweeping curve at Palm KY, with 75 loads of chicken chow headed for Ga.

The DPU on the bottom of Southbound train 23G is already in #8 as the head end starts up the grade towards Kings Mountain. This location is the "Green River Dip" just South of Geneva, KY

Northbound 174 comes off the mountain and under the signals at Southfork, KY

I like that shot of 23G EM. Neat to see a whole train in one shot.
