I have been working on finishing up the processing of the  last of my shots from 2012, and finally have it ALL done (except 3 days worth of stuff from the NS birthday party in Spencer NC).. With all of the Steam and heritage stuff taking the spotlight, I had not gotten around to a lot of the "regular" stuff until now.

The last update from 2012 is a big one, with almost 80 new images of the 2nd District of the CNO&TP that cover several days stretching back all the way to October of last year. Sunny days, cloudy wet days, Fall color, winter gloom and a lot of signal stuff...its all here  ;D

Feel free to check this link to check it all if you want. Lots of variety in power and locations, you might even find something you like! >>>> http://www.pbase.com/kd4jsl/cs2nddistrict12_eb_

As usual, here are a few samples.

Northbound 142 rolls through the Fall colors at Bowen KY on 10/25/12

NS 275 meets a Northbound in the big cut near Keno, KY 10/25/12

NS 68E, a unit train of "exploding corn squeezings" winds through the curve at Parkers Lake, KY 10/25/12

Northbound 264 stretches out through dip at Pemberton TN 10/28/12

Triplecrown 264 again, passing under the signal bridge at "Cumberland Chair" near Norwood Ky. This is a somewhat rare angle for this location, and one you can only get on a cloudy day.  10/28/12

UP power leads train 117 at Camp Austin TN on 11/09/12

Southbound coal train 890 rolls down the valley near McKinney, KY, as seen from the seat of a slightly used bulldozer. 12/22/12

A Southbound GE rumbles across the Green River bridge at Southfork KY on 12/22/12

Northbound 216 hustles up the valley at Moreland, KY with the last of the UPS Christmas rush 12/22/12

Very nice pictures. I have to get out of Lenoir City and find my way around up there.

As always, simply riveting photography, EM! As a matter of curiosity, what's the longest piece of glass you use on that camera of yours (in mm)?

Thanks for the comments folks..that makes it all worthwhile!

Ron, the biggest I have (I call her Bertha) is a fixed 400mm 5.6. With the sensor crop on my 50D, that works out to around 640mm. Not the most practical 10 pounds of glass one can tote around in these parts, but it does come in handy at time.

Wow...that's a real home wrecker! I've never used anything longer than a 300mm. I had a Nikkor fixed 300mm I used with my film cameras for many years, and it was a monster. I love the look, however.
