Last Sunday morning 09/23/12, Carmon and myself got up early and headed out to try our luck at a new spot Adam Wells had told me about. I have been shooting this area for over 25 years, so a new photo location is always welcomed!

While I had already figured out that the sun would only be good at this new spot for the first couple of hours after sunrise, NS didn't bother to run anything until later when the sun angle was not as good as it should have been, and I want to go back and try again..this place has a lot of potential, even with the limited time frame it is usable each day.

The train we caught was 285, and he had a nice clean Super Deuce leading (SD70M-2). The weather was almost perfect with a deep blue sky and puffy clouds, so we followed him back towards home to get a few more shots.  Here are my results from the Two hours we spent out and about.

NS 285 reflects in the still waters of Lake Wells.

A few miles further East, 285 pops around the corner at Nevins Station KY. Vestiges of the Southern still survive if you know where to look. That old wooden post used to have a larger station sign on it (and check out that fancy top), and the old switch target still has the mount for a kerosene switch lamp on it. The engine on 285 in the background may have "Norfolk" in front of Southern, but the Southern is still around here in Kentucky.

And the last shot of the morning, at East Talmage KY under a perfect Kodachrome sky.
