Last Sunday morning, I drug Carmon out of bed early, and we headed over to High Bridge (Where the CNO&TP crosses the KY River) to shoot a few trains. I hadn't been over that way in a long while, which is odd really, as its only about 30 minutes from home. We don't shoot much on the 1st district, as I have always felt the scenery was not all that good most places, and the traffic is a little lighter than South of Danville.

High Bridge is one of the few scenic places North of Danville, and also one that is rather hard to shoot. Access to the bridge is limited, and the best shots can only be had early in the morning from sunrise until MAYBE 1100.....if you snooze you loose!  We pulled into the (fairly) new and rebuilt park on the North Side of the bridge about 0830, and spent the next Three hours hanging out shooting from up above and down below. NS provided us with a total of 6 trains in less than Two hours, so it was well worth the early call time. While at the park, we ran into Mark Crowder (who just joined Jreb) who was there watching the actions with his kids...nice to meet you Mark, and welcome to the board!

Here are a few of my shots from the morning, and also a couple from Wilmore. The entire set is on Pbase in much better quality....just follow this link.  http://www.pbase.com/kd4jsl/cs1stdistrict12

Soutbound NS 295 rolls across the KY River valley, as seen from the new park.

Triple Crown 264 crosses the bridge, as seen from down in the valley. High Bridge is around 310 feet above the average pool level of the KY river.

Carmon is giving me that "lets get back in the heat" look as a Southbound grain train crosses the valley. It was about 20 degree's with a brisk 35mph wind.

Later in the morning, we made our way up to Wilmore. Here is a scene that just oozes the feel of the Southern Railway, even without a train. The old style blow boards and getting rare now, and the GRD signals are as well.

Beautiful shots! I'm still upset about missing that 51Q, but I'm glad to have another place added to my list for my trip up to the CNO&TP this spring!

Thanks Chip...its just one of the many places on the CNO&TP worth shooting. A feller come turn his "bucket list" into a novel on that line :)

Well, I am honestly  not at liberty to divulge where I got those in public, but if you are really interested, drop me a PM and I will see what I can do.

Needless to say, they are special made items :)

we set out to watch a few trains at highbridge.when my 5 year old boy said i see a train daddy,i looked over my shoulder through a bunch of farm land and did not see anything.then we met the train at an underpass, spead up a little, met at the overpass, and barely beat it to highbridge.
as we were sitting there waiting for another train,an explorer pulled up with anteneas on top.at first i thought it was the wilmore police,as i looked real close i saw a ns licence plate on the front, and said to myself maybe it is the railroad police checking out highbridge.
i decided to get out and walk up to the explorer that had parked.i kinda walked up slowly and pointed towards the bridge cause i did not want to startle the guy or have a gun pulled on me.he slowly rolled the window down and i asked him if he was train watching and had a radio.
that is when i met mr bell and his wife and learned about this awesome website ! i was very glad to meet somebody that shares and understands this hobby.so far he has been a very good mentor and i look foward learning a lot more from emmett, carmon, and all the other members of this website.
