Just got my long awaited SD70 ace pilot dummy in NS today from the mailman. It looks so real. Anybody know anything about what a pilot dummy is ? This is the third. I have a Conrail sd80 and NS c44-9w from Athearn. They are really detailed right down to the interior. The way I think a pilot is  That it basically is sent from Athearn or who ever to show what the engine will look like once production starts. That about it?

I'm wanting to see it. Post a few pictures!

So, what you have is basically a pre-production model for design approval and/or for photos to be used in ads and other marketing methods?

That sounds like a neat type of model to acquire. Where do you find them, on e-bay?

Yes I have been lucky that no one has bid on these at all. That was what I was told by the sellers and what little research I could find on a Pilot Dummy. All the years I have been collecting from ebay these are only the three I have noticed. Not saying they are rare but these are just what I have noticed. I only thing on this sd70 ace is the right rear step was broken. But the model looks so great I will just run that side away from viewers on the layout.

I would like to get a look at it.
Bet we could re-build the steps .
Even turn it into a powered unit.

Yep that was the seller. I will have to bring it over to show you one Sat at the club Joe and I would like to rebuild those steps. However I did see a NS engine in Appalachia a while back that had the steps missing in the rear and they just had Yellow tape wrapped around the handrail. I saw it several times so don't guess it was going to be fixed any time soon. Give me a call when you will be at the JC club and I will bring it by.
