Southern, NW, and Conrail.

Yeah That's the thing about collectors !  They will buy anything ! I at first liked the southern one but the more I looked at it ohhh nooo ! It's too toy like ? I for one like how NSmodeler24 from YouTube did his southern heritage SD70M-2!  but NS will never do this I believe the F's are enough

The 4610 Southern unit is good enough for me! I wondered why they never did a N&W unit... but then I remembered that the current NS scheme IS the N&W scheme! haha!

Badhorse79

Yeah but wouldn't a Tuscan red loco be nice Maybe a rebuilt admiral cab sd40-2 yeah that's it my next assignment !!! After a B32-8 of course

I think if Norfolk Southern were to ever do heritage schemes, the best thing they could do is paint a pair of High Hood SD40-2's in Southern tuxedo, 6175 back into the redbird scheme, and one other N&W SD40-2 into its original NW paint. Maybe even a pair of units in Conrail once the current blue units are all repainted. Even though all the old NS GP38's have been gone a while, two low hood GP38-2's in Gray would be a suitable stand in.

Although Union Pacific's efforts with the heritage SD70ACe's are nice to see, I feel like there is no need to try to force some phony paint sheme on a SD70ACe  when there are plenty of old soldiers out there with lots of heritage. Although its not a true southern veteran, the 4610 is better to me than UP's units because its a real paint scheme, just like what PanAm has done with its B&M and MEC heritage Geeps.

Although CSX is probably the last railroad to show some heritage, they could probably come up with most heritage schemes to apply to older locos. SBD, Family Lines, SCL, ACL, SAL, Chessie, B&O, C&O, WM, L&N Georgia RR, Durham and Southern, Clinchfield, Conrail, RF&P, and im sure i missed a couple. They have units of almost all of these roads still running.

Speaking of CSX's D&S... I have an HO model of a non dynamic brake GP38-2 # 2558. It is one of four Non DB GP38-2 that CSX got from D&S. The only ones CSX has. It has a 1600 gallon fuel tank... and is still in operation today. I like the RF&P Blue and Gray scheme that their GP40's last wore.

Oh... I also forgot that NS's researh slugs and business cars are in N&W paint.

The Durham and Southern used to run a few miles from where I live, now just a path through the trees or covered by houses at this point. You are right about the 4 GP38-2's. Hopefully when the day comes that CSX is done with them, they dont meet the torch. CSXT 2556 was D&S 2000, the bicentennial unit. Maybe someday it will end up preserved at NCTM. It was a shame the D&S Baldwins on the Morehead and North Fork property were cut up last year, it would have been great if one of them had been preserved.

But back to the heritage locos, That is my take. It would be cool to see engines like D&S 2558 run on their original properties with heritage paint schemes. No corporate logos, flashy made up schemes, or anything special, but just like they used to be. Seeing NS ECBU local E25 run through town with a pair of GP38's( or -2's since they are all gone) in old NS Gray on old NS trackage would be quite a sight for me, as I was born many years too late to see them in person.
