I enjoyed a 13+ hour railfanning trip on Friday . . . the 680 miles of driving was another thing.

Great weather, beautiful scenery, and a load of southbound runs late in the afternoon.

The pics . .

1) Parkers Lake was quiet just prior to noon.

2) The reason, MOW crews were spraying.

3) The look southbound over the long span at Burnside

Additional pics from 3 hours at Kings Mountain, KY . . .

1) NS 229 was "hauling" up-grade (it blasted through the cut).

2) NS 223 arrived about 3:15 PM

3) NS 144 is sitting on Track #2, waiting for the colorful stacks to clear.

Wish we had know you where down this way. A group of 6 of us where out shooting as well. We got that short and sweet 229 at Keno, just South of Tateville. It sure got busy in the afternoon. Today was good as well, with a metric ton of Southbounds in the afternoon..

#3
NS 229 cleared Kings Mountain in the 2:00 PM range, at full speed.  Then 215 and 223 came through back-to-back just after 3:00 PM (both with a very long consist).  From my pics above, it shows 144 was held on Track #2 the entire time.  The pic below shows the crew of NS 144 on the ground monitoring the southbound freights.  I also had time between runs to run down by the signal bridge to get a few close-up's of the lead unit on 144.

I wanted to wait around for 143 to meet 144 (which would have been in the 4:30 PM range) but had a 5-hour drive back to Indiana ahead of me . . . . so took off.  Those two frequently run behind my house here on the Frankfort line west of Muncie, IN.  BTW, I think 144 came by my home about 9:00 AM on Saturday morning, about 264 miles via NS's lines.

Looks like you had a good day, but then what day on the Rathole isn't.
