Last Saturday on the way home from our ill fated attempt at shooting the UP 844 (yall remember that story don't ya??...don't worry, I am over it) we managed a "consolation" prize in the form of a couple of NS Westbounds at Huntingburg Indiana.

With that new alternator doing its thing under the hood, we left the Saint Louis area, and I had thought about jumping off the interstate at Centrailia or Mount Vernon to follow the NS back towards Louisville, but at each of those exits, my temper got the best of me and I just kept the hammer down. By the time we had crossed into Indiana, my lovely sidekick Carm had managed to get me in a bit better mood. After making a quick urinary diversion, I heard the Decatur dispatcher lining up a 4 train meet at Huntingburg. The light was low and awesome, so we cut across to the tracks to shoot.

30 Mins later we had bagged NS 112 with a single SD70M-2 and 168 with a spartan cab GE in some great light, and I felt a little better...that day had not been a total loss..

High res version of these can be found at the link below, for those that like to count rivets and analyze the bird droppings on the locomotives.

NS 112 creeps along just before taking the siding at East Huntingburg to meet 60A and 111

NS 2681 on train 112 reflects in the swampy waters while waiting for 168 to move.

After making a setout at the yard in Huntingburg, NS 168 gets back underway, 199 miles East of St. Louis
